PSG Build Europe’s Most Fearsome Frontline

Across a packed sporting calendar that includes a BD Cricket Match, Paris Saint-Germain are moving closer to assembling what could become the most frightening attacking unit in Europe. Nineteen-year-old Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande has rejected Liverpool’s offer worth 100 million euros, consisting of 90 million upfront and 10 million in add-ons, and has verbally agreed to a five-year contract with PSG despite being offered a noticeably lower salary.

RB Leipzig remain firm on their 130 million euro asking price. Diomande is contracted until 2030 and his deal contains no release clause, leaving Liverpool’s bid to serve mainly as leverage in negotiations. PSG have already won the Champions League in consecutive seasons, yet Luis Enrique is still strengthening his frontline. Once Diomande arrives, no other European club may possess attacking depth at the same level.

PSG Build Europe's Most Fearsome Frontline

Leipzig signed Diomande from Spanish side Leganes for 20 million euros last summer, and he established himself as a regular starter within one season. He made 36 appearances in all competitions last term, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists. His estimated market value rose from 18 million to 80 million euros in just six months.

Leipzig protected their investment with a long-term contract running until 2030 and did not include a release clause. That has allowed the German club to demand 130 million euros without compromise. Liverpool submitted their 100 million euro proposal last week, but it was immediately rejected.

Diomande had already reached a verbal agreement with PSG by late June. His proposed weekly wage is reportedly around 20,000 euros lower than Liverpool’s offer, but three factors shaped his preference. He supported PSG during childhood, Enrique’s tactical system is well suited to wide players, and the French champions’ back-to-back European triumphs may provide a clearer route towards individual honours such as the Ballon d’Or.

The transfer saga has unfolded during a busy week that includes a BD Cricket Match, while PSG’s existing attackers continue to underline why the club are already in a league of their own. Ousmane Dembele, the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, made 40 appearances last season and scored 20 goals. Originally a right winger, he was converted into a false nine by Enrique and led the attack against Arsenal in the Champions League final.

Dembele remains dangerous when taking on defenders from wide areas, cutting inside to shoot or dropping deeper to connect midfield and attack. He has now fully adapted to PSG’s possession-based approach and serves as the tactical centrepiece of the frontline.

Desire Doue, now 21, recorded 13 goals and 11 assists across 41 appearances last season. Although developed as a midfielder, he can arrive late in the penalty area to finish chances or drop back to organise play. His movement covers almost the entire attacking half, and several of his Champions League knockout-stage goals came from well-timed runs beyond the forwards. Enrique usually deploys him on the right or as an attacking midfielder.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, affectionately nicknamed Kvaradona by supporters, played 48 matches for PSG last season and contributed 19 goals and 11 assists. In the Champions League alone, he registered 10 goals and six assists in 15 appearances before being named the competition’s best player for the 2025-26 campaign.

His successful dribbling rate on the left exceeded 60 percent, while the accuracy of his shots after cutting inside ranked among the top three wingers in the Champions League. He is also capable of delivering reliable crosses into the penalty area. The front three of Kvaratskhelia, Dembele and Doue was the same combination that overcame Arsenal in the European final.

PSG also have two young attacking options waiting on the bench. Eighteen-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye is a product of the club’s academy and made 31 first-team appearances last season, contributing three goals and two assists. Despite his limited minutes, his finishing efficiency inside the penalty area was 42 percent higher than that of Ligue 1 forwards in the same age group.

Mbaye has outstanding physical strength and is viewed by PSG as a potential long-term focal point in attack. He can operate as a false nine or provide cover on either wing. Meanwhile, 21-year-old French midfielder Senny Mayulu produced six goals and five assists in all competitions last season.

Mayulu’s speed over 30 metres ranked among the top three Ligue 1 players in his position. Enrique normally introduces him after the 65th minute, using his pace to attack defensive lines that have begun to tire. He appeared from the bench three times during last season’s Champions League knockout rounds and delivered an assist on each occasion.

Diomande’s main position is on the wing rather than through the centre, so claims that he would solve PSG’s supposed weakness at striker are inaccurate. Goncalo Ramos remains available as a natural centre-forward. Although injuries limited him to 22 appearances last season, he still recorded seven goals and two assists. When fully fit, he averaged 0.68 goals per 90 minutes inside the penalty area.

Diomande would mainly strengthen PSG’s wide rotation. The starting trio would probably remain Kvaratskhelia on the left, Dembele as a false nine and Doue on the right, preserving the structure used in the Champions League final. Diomande could replace Doue on the right, move wide when Dembele is rested or allow Dembele to drop into midfield and organise attacks. Enrique could even experiment with Diomande and Kvaratskhelia operating together from the left.

PSG’s first-choice midfield of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves has remained unchanged since the 2024-25 season. Enrique’s 4-3-3 possession system has been refined over three years and is now fully established.

The senior attacking group would contain Dembele, Kvaratskhelia, Doue, Diomande, Mbaye and Mayulu. Four were part of last season’s Champions League-winning squad, while the two young substitutes combined for nine goals and seven assists. That level of depth could make PSG almost impossible to contain next season.

Within a sporting schedule that also includes a Bangladesh Cricket Match, Liverpool’s failed pursuit of Diomande has created an intriguing transfer circle. PSG winger Bradley Barcola contributed 13 goals and eight assists in 55 appearances last season, and Liverpool have recently been linked with a move for him. After failing with a 100 million euro bid for PSG’s preferred target, the English club may now turn towards one of the French champions’ existing wingers instead.
